On Sunday, 24th November 2024, a new Christian church, Hope Church Tolworth, launched in South West London with great excitement and anticipation. This vibrant new church is a result of a unique partnership between two local congregations: a group from Cornerstone Church in Kingston and a group from Emmanuel Church in Tolworth. Together, they have formed a community centred on the life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hope Church Tolworth now meets at Knollmead Primary School, located on the Sunray Estate in Tolworth. On the very first Sunday, there was an undeniable sense of joy and excitement as people gathered for the inaugural service. Everything was in place—from the audio and visual equipment to a talented music band and a warm welcome with refreshments. The church demonstrated its heart for service, with many members volunteering to help with activities like setting up, stewarding, coordinating refreshments, and teaching children in the Sunday School.

Pastor Bart Erlebach preached from 1 Peter 1:3, highlighting the "solid and secure hope" Christians have in Jesus Christ. He reminded the congregation that Christian hope is not based on wishful thinking but is anchored in an actual historical event—the death and resurrection of Jesus—and in God’s mercy, not human achievement.

Following the service, the church community came together for a shared lunch, further reinforcing the sense of belonging and unity. Everyone brought food to share, and the afternoon was rounded off with a celebration cake, cut by one of the church members.

As we reflect on this exciting launch, Hope Church Tolworth is eager to serve God and the local community, sharing the message of the Bible and welcoming new people into the church family. With a strong foundation in the gospel and a heart for service, we look forward to seeing how God will continue to work in Tolworth in the months and years ahead.
