All Aboard for Easter!
What do a raging storm, a reluctant prophet, and a very large fish have in common? They all made an unforgettable appearance at our Easter Holiday Bible 2026 at the Sunray Community Centre on 30-31 March and 1 April! Over the course of three action-packed mornings together, 39 children ventured into the book of Jonah, therein we journeyed through the Mediterranean Sea to the inside of a fish belly and back.
Each morning featured narrated mimes to bring the story of Jonah to life for the children – from Jonah's initial refusal to obey God’s instruction to preach in Nineveh and voyage to Tarshish in his disobedience, to Jonah’s desperate prayer from inside the great fish, and the U-turn of Jonah and the Ninevites after Jonah’s pronouncement to the Ninevites that “in 40 days Nineveh will be destroyed” – the children tracked engagingly with the story and participated with enthusiasm throughout.
After games and craft time, the children gathered in their small groups for guided discussions. We considered some discussion questions:
How God is King of everything?
What is sin? (the clue is in the acronym: shove off God; I am in charge; no to your reign)
What Jonah did in his distress and the idea of prayer?
What it means to make a U-turn – from rejecting God to repentance and reconciliation with God and how Jesus made it possible through his death and resurrection?
We had tremendous fun singing and dancing to “Super Saviour” and “Are you serving Captain Jesus”!
To round off the holiday club, the children brought home their handicraft, a goodie bag and more importantly, a memory verse in their heart as a reminder of what we all learnt about God, who is faithful to forgive and to save.
Our memory verse:
In my distress I call to the Lord, and He answered me. Salvation comes from the LORD. Jonah 2:2a, 9c
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Holiday Club. Keep following Lord Jesus.⚓🐟
No shipwreck adventure would be complete without treasures to take home. Children got busy crafting their own boat-in-stormy-sea, Jonah-inside-big-fish, as well as decorating a ship-shaped cookie to take home.
